In Udaipur, Rajasthan, a disturbing incident involving a 5-year-old boy being attacked by three stray dogs has raised concerns amid a nationwide discussion on dog-bite incidents. The child's father has voiced his support for the Supreme Court's directive regarding stray dogs, suggesting that those advocating for the animals should witness the reality of such attacks.
Dinesh Sahu, the victim's father, shared his distress with a news agency, stating, "The dogs were dragging him. The doctor administered antibiotic injections. Children are now too scared to go outside and are even skipping school. The Supreme Court has ordered that all stray dogs be placed in shelters to ensure children's safety while playing. I hope the protesting dog lovers see these videos to understand the severity of these attacks... He could have lost his life."
The attack occurred on August 14, as reported by the boy's mother, Preeti Sahu, who recounted, "I heard his screams and rushed to him. I found three dogs on top of him... He sustained 3-4 injuries. I contacted Animal Aid; they arrived but did not take the dogs immediately. They only removed them the following day. Dog attacks are on the rise; the government must ensure that children can play safely outside..."
In a related incident, a group of approximately 15-20 individuals, identified by police as "dog lovers," reportedly interfered with a stray dog-catching operation conducted by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in Rohini. Police reported that this group assaulted MCD personnel, released two captured dogs, and vandalized the MCD vehicle by breaking its windows and stealing documents.
Rohini DCP Rajeev Ranjan stated, "A complaint was lodged yesterday against a group of around 15-20 so-called dog lovers. They obstructed an MCD vehicle involved in capturing stray dogs, freed two of them, and assaulted the staff, leading to vandalism, including breaking the vehicle's window and stealing the register and logbook."
